Just Cause 4 is a singleplayer action-adventure game set in the open world of Sol铆s. Players control Rico Rodr铆guez as he builds forces to challenge the Black Hand through destruction, traversal, and region control. The Sea Dogs Vehicle Pack adds two specialized vehicles that expand options for movement and combat in this sandbox environment.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on using a grappling hook with multiple tether modes, a wingsuit, and parachute for rapid travel across varied biomes including deserts, rainforests, grasslands, and snowy mountains. Weather events such as tornadoes, sandstorms, thunderstorms, and blizzards influence movement and create dynamic hazards. Weapons feature alternate fire modes, and players can request supply drops to access additional gear during play. Progression involves generating chaos by targeting enemy infrastructure, which unlocks squads for the Army of Chaos to claim territories after completing specific region missions. The grappling hook supports retractor, balloon, and booster attachments that can be customized and mixed across loadouts for creative interactions with objects, vehicles, and enemies.
The Sea Dogs Vehicle Pack introduces the SS Borracho, a gunpowder galleon equipped with working front and side cannons that operates effectively on both water and land at high speed. The Hellbender armored hovercraft provides heavy protection against sustained fire, mounts a heavy cannon, and launches heat-seeking missiles. These additions integrate directly into the existing vehicle roster, offering new ways to engage military units or traverse coastal and open areas while maintaining the emphasis on physics-driven chaos.
Game Modes
Just Cause 4 operates entirely in singleplayer. The primary experience combines story-driven missions with open-world freedom. Region strikes require completing targeted objectives to unlock areas for squad deployment. Frontline zones feature ongoing conflicts between rebel forces and the Black Hand, allowing players to join active battles at territory borders. Supply drops and chaos point accumulation support repeated play sessions focused on liberation and experimentation rather than structured competitive or cooperative formats.
Vehicles and Customization
A wide selection of land, sea, and air vehicles appears throughout Sol铆s, with many unlocked through region control. The grappling hook and tether system extend to these vehicles for creative modifications, such as attaching boosters or balloons. The Sea Dogs pack vehicles stand out for their amphibious capabilities and built-in armaments, fitting the game's focus on large-scale destruction without requiring additional unlocks beyond the DLC itself.
Is It Worth Playing?
Just Cause 4 delivers a singleplayer open-world experience centered on traversal tools, environmental interaction, and territorial conquest against the Black Hand. Reception has been mixed, with scores reflecting strengths in sandbox freedom alongside criticisms of technical issues and repetition in some progression elements. The Sea Dogs Vehicle Pack provides immediate access to two distinct vehicles suited for naval and heavy combat scenarios, enhancing variety for players who enjoy experimenting with the physics systems and supply drop mechanics. Those seeking a focused singleplayer campaign with extensive vehicle options and weather-influenced exploration may find value in the base game plus this pack, particularly on PC where performance adjustments are available. No ongoing seasonal content or multiplayer features exist, so the experience remains static after the 2019 DLC releases.
