Crysis Remastered is a single-player first-person shooter that brings the 2007 original to modern consoles with updated visuals and performance options. Players take control of special forces operative Nomad, equipped with a Nanosuit that grants tactical advantages in combat and exploration across a series of island-based missions.
Gameplay
The core loop revolves around navigating open mission areas where objectives can be approached through direct confrontation or careful positioning. The Nanosuit serves as the central mechanic, with four distinct power modes that draw from a shared energy pool that regenerates over time. Armor mode reduces incoming damage and improves energy recovery. Strength mode boosts melee impact, object throwing, jump height, and weapon stability. Speed mode increases movement, swimming, and reload rates. Cloak mode renders the player nearly invisible while suppressing noise, though it drains energy faster during movement.
Weapons form another key system. A selection of firearms supports on-the-fly customization with attachments such as scopes, silencers, and underbarrel launchers. This includes standard options like assault rifles and sniper rifles alongside experimental and alien-derived armaments encountered later in the campaign. Vehicles add further variety, allowing players to commandeer jeeps, boats, and helicopters to traverse terrain or engage targets. Environments feature destructible elements, enabling creative use of the surroundings during fights against North Korean forces and later alien threats.
Game Modes
Crysis Remastered centers on its single-player campaign, structured around a sequence of missions set on a chain of islands. Each mission presents a sandbox-style layout with multiple paths and objectives that support varied tactics. Players can shift between stealth infiltration using cloak and aggressive assaults leveraging strength or armor, adapting to changing conditions such as dense jungle or more open zones. Difficulty settings further influence enemy behavior and resource management without altering the fundamental structure.
No separate multiplayer component appears in the console release. The experience remains focused on the narrative-driven campaign that begins as a rescue operation and expands into larger confrontations.
Story and Setting
The narrative follows Nomad and his team as they respond to a situation on North Korean-controlled islands. What starts as a targeted extraction evolves into encounters with advanced alien technology and forces. The setting emphasizes freedom within mission boundaries, where players decide how to handle patrols, secure areas, or utilize environmental features against opponents.
Technical Aspects on PS4
The remaster includes graphical enhancements such as improved lighting, textures, and support for ray tracing on compatible hardware. PS4 Pro offers selectable modes that balance resolution, frame rate, and visual effects. Base PS4 performance prioritizes stability in quality settings, though some players note occasional inconsistencies during intense sequences. The campaign supports exploration on foot or by vehicle, with emphasis on the Nanosuit's role in overcoming obstacles.
Is It Worth Playing?
Reviews for the PS4 version describe mixed reception, with scores generally falling in the average range on aggregate sites. Strengths highlighted include the enduring appeal of the Nanosuit-driven freedom and mission variety, while criticisms focus on dated gunplay feel, AI limitations, and technical hiccups in the remaster. The game suits players interested in a classic-style shooter that rewards experimentation with powers and approaches rather than linear progression. Those seeking polished modern mechanics or ongoing updates may find it less compelling, though the core campaign delivers a self-contained experience for fans of open-ended first-person action. Availability on PS4 makes it accessible for those with the platform who have not played the original.
