ONE PIECE World Seeker is a single-player open-world action-adventure game that places players in control of Monkey D. Luffy on the mysterious Prison Island. The title delivers an original story where the Straw Hat Pirates become entangled in local conflicts after arriving in search of treasure, with new characters created by Eiichiro Oda. Exploration centers on Luffy's Gum-Gum fruit abilities to navigate large areas, while combat incorporates Haki techniques and progression through skill upgrades.
Gameplay
Players experience the game from a third-person perspective as Luffy, moving freely across Prison Island's varied landscapes. Traversal relies heavily on Gum-Gum techniques such as the Rocket ability, which lets Luffy swing and glide between points to cover distances quickly and reach elevated or distant locations. The open world includes villages, harbors, mines, and more remote zones that players uncover gradually through story progress and side activities.
Combat revolves around two switchable Haki stances. Observation Haki emphasizes faster strikes and evasive maneuvers suited to groups or agile foes, while Armament Haki shifts focus to slower, heavier attacks and defensive blocking for tougher opponents. A tension gauge builds during fights to enable powerful special moves, and later story sections unlock Gear Fourth for temporary boosts in strength. Stealth sections appear in certain missions, where Observation Haki helps detect enemies through obstacles, though many encounters favor direct engagement. Skill trees allow investment in combat, mobility, and stealth categories to expand Luffy's options over time. Side activities often involve collecting items, defeating groups of marines or pirates, or completing requests from island residents.
Game Modes
The core experience consists of a linear story campaign divided into chapters that advance the plot on Prison Island. Players complete main objectives while tackling optional side quests that expand on local factions and daily life. A separate Free Play option lets players practice combat skills in isolated encounters without story constraints. No multiplayer components exist, keeping all activity focused on solo progression through the single island setting.
Story and Setting
The narrative unfolds on Prison Island, once known as Jewel Island, now under Navy control led by warden Isaac. Luffy and the crew arrive amid rumors of hidden treasure and soon ally with a local rebellion seeking to restore freedom. The plot incorporates twists involving the island's history with powerful Dyna Stones and features familiar series antagonists in boss encounters. Original characters designed by Eiichiro Oda integrate into the events alongside the Straw Hats, who provide support through crafting and occasional assistance.
Is It Worth Playing?
ONE PIECE World Seeker suits fans of the series who prioritize Luffy's movement mechanics and an original story over polished open-world depth. Reviews highlight engaging traversal and character moments as strengths, while noting repetitive combat loops and an often empty-feeling map as drawbacks. The game launched in 2019 with no ongoing seasons or major post-release updates, leaving it as a complete but dated single-player title. Those drawn to One Piece's world and willing to overlook mission repetition may find value in the island exploration and Haki-based fights, whereas players seeking varied gameplay or dense content may prefer other entries in the franchise.
