O Power of the Horde

Power of the Horde - o grze

Power of the Horde is a single-player RTS with rich RPG elements.

Key Features:

  • Classic RTS gameplay with base building, unit training, and more.

  • Heroes with a full equipment system. Your goal isn’t just to destroy the enemy base — loot new items in every skirmish or campaign, like an RPG inside an RTS.

  • Dynamic maps with neutral villages, mini-dungeons, and other unique points of interest, making each map feel like a lively world.

I’ll keep sharing updates here and on X: @stevenluo4.

1. RTS + RPG

In traditional RTS games, players usually have only one goal per match: defeat the opponent. But in Power of the Horde, some changes have been made.

Players can get and keep all kinds of items in each skirmish. This means a match's goal may include not only defeating the enemy but also looting better items. For example, even if your base is destroyed by AI, your hero might loot a Legendary-class weapon on the other side of the map. Items on your hero are retained whether you are defeated or quit.

Equipment comes in levels, from white (normal) to golden ancient legendary. Players can obtain them by completing quests or defeating neutral guards.

2. Quests on the map

Inspired by MMO RPGs, each skirmish map is designed as a lively world. There are various neutral villages and NPCs—some offer quests, some sell rare items, and some can even be hired directly. In the wild, neutral creatures of varying difficulty drop different items.

Each skirmish map is divided into several areas. At the start, higher-level areas are blocked and are gradually unlocked as the main quest is completed.

As a 20-year RTS fan, one thing I dislike most is building expansion bases step by step, which is tedious.

In Power of the Horde, unlocking an expansion base is designed as a quest. When requirements are met, send the hero to talk to the NPC. Once the conversation ends, a small base is built immediately, including a town center, barracks, mage tower, and five workers ready to mine.

3. AI Assistant

There are three types of AI assistants to help players at different levels:

Constructor AI:
Handles building construction and unit training. The player only controls the troops.

Lieutenant AI:
Handles construction, unit training, and non-hero unit combat. AI leads all units to attack neutral guards or the enemy base, while the player controls only the hero, similar to an ARPG.

General AI:
Handles everything, including completing quests and picking up items. The player can watch as AI loots until the hero’s bag is full.

Players can turn AI assistants on/off or switch modes anytime during gameplay. You can even enable General AI and let it explore dungeons automatically, then check the loot afterward.

I created this game myself. As an RTS fan, it is exciting to make a game that carries my inspirations. I will keep updating Power of the Horde, and I hope you enjoy it.
