LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Deluxe Edition is an action-adventure game that lets players experience the full Skywalker Saga across all nine main Star Wars films in a single title. Developed for PS4 and PS5, it combines the signature brick-based humor and puzzle-solving of LEGO games with updated third-person controls and a vast explorable galaxy. Players relive key moments from the prequel, original, and sequel trilogies while collecting characters, vehicles, and bricks in open hub areas on 23 planets plus surrounding space sectors.
Gameplay
The core loop revolves around progressing through linear story levels drawn from each film, then returning in Free Play with unlocked characters to find hidden collectibles. Combat has been refined with light and heavy attacks that build combos, a dedicated aiming system for blasters, and cover mechanics that encourage tactical positioning during shootouts. Jedi and Sith characters wield lightsabers with distinct swings and Force powers for pulling objects or pushing enemies, while other classes like scavengers or bounty hunters bring unique tools for puzzle-solving and traversal.
Exploration rewards players with Kyber Bricks that upgrade abilities across nine character classes, including Jedi, Hero, Dark Side, Villain, Scavenger, Scoundrel, Bounty Hunter, Astromech Droid, and Protocol Droid. Over 300 playable characters populate the galaxy, each with class-specific skills that encourage experimentation when tackling objectives or side content. Vehicles number more than 100, supporting ground travel, podracing, and full 360-degree space dogfights where players can board and explore larger capital ships.
Hub worlds on planets like Tatooine, Dagobah, and Crait feature seamless travel between locations, glowing objective trails for guidance, and optional quests that expand on the main narrative. Split-screen local co-op supports two players who can work together or split up in these areas, with drop-in and drop-out support at any time.
Game Modes
Story mode follows the nine films in sequence or allows players to begin with any of the three trilogies and jump between episodes. Each film breaks into multiple levels that recreate iconic scenes with LEGO twists and humor. After completing a story segment, Free Play unlocks the same levels for replay with any collected characters to access new paths and secrets.
Open exploration serves as the primary post-story activity. Players freely travel between the 23 planets and their space sectors, completing side missions, collecting studs for purchases, and hunting Kyber Bricks to expand the shared skill tree. A Mumble Mode option restores the wordless character interactions from earlier LEGO titles for those who prefer that style over voiced dialogue.
Local two-player co-op integrates into every mode without requiring separate matchmaking, letting a second player join or leave sessions instantly on the same console.
Exploration and Progression
Progression ties directly to exploration rather than strict leveling. Finding Kyber Bricks across hubs and levels unlocks passive upgrades and new abilities for entire classes, making previously inaccessible areas reachable. Stud collection funds new characters and cosmetic options, while vehicle selection expands as players unlock more ships for space travel and combat.
The game emphasizes freedom within structured campaigns. Players can tackle side content at any point, switch characters mid-level for specific abilities, and revisit planets after story completion to finish remaining objectives. Space sectors around each planet add another layer of vehicle-based gameplay separate from ground hubs.
Is It Worth Playing?
The game delivers a substantial single-player campaign covering every film in the Skywalker Saga plus extensive side content that can extend playtime well beyond the main story. Local co-op makes it particularly suitable for families or pairs playing together on the couch, with drop-in support that accommodates varying schedules.
Reception has been generally favorable, with critics and players highlighting the volume of content, improved combat systems, and faithful yet humorous retellings of the films. Some note that endgame collection can feel repetitive for completionists, while others appreciate the polished controls and visual upgrades on PS5 such as ray tracing.
It suits fans of Star Wars, LEGO games, or light action-adventure experiences who enjoy exploration and character variety over competitive multiplayer. The Deluxe Edition on PS4 and PS5 includes the full game plus additional character content, providing immediate access to a broader roster. Those seeking ongoing seasonal updates will find a complete, self-contained experience instead.
