Lof-Ely: The Dark Cave is a roleplaying game focusing on puzzles and storytelling, though that's not to say combat isn't a big part of the game. Fighting in Lof-Ely requires quick reflexes and a bit of strategy. As for the story, embody Commander D.A.-9 as he ventures into the depths of a long abandoned cavern, once home to the "people of Fesik". Follow his story as he fights demons who have聽possessed his soldiers and friends, attempting to reach the depths where Hell and Earth connect to stop this demon invasion and save all who are left.
STORY -
The story of Commander D.A.-9's journey to the depths of the Earth is the priority of Lof-Ely: The Dark Cave. Help him fulfill his story and reach his inevitable fate. Meet the Anti-Avian Association's D-Squad, whom you'll be tasked with saving as they all face an unexpected threat. Seek help from a vengeful demon, who speaks through mirrors. Reach one of the Lord's angels to free your soul from sin. Break facades, uncover hidden truths, and save the Earth from a herald of the Apocalypse.
All kinds of unique paths and dialogues
Your choices influence the outcome of several events in the game. Sometimes you will gain a new dialogue or change a character's mood, other times you'll have entirely different conversations and explore different outcomes.
Charming characters!
Between all the A.A.A. Soldiers, An Angel, a Ghoul, and whoever is writing those signs found across the cave, this game will present you with a cast of characters you'll grow to like before they inevitably die. If "the living" isn't to your liking, then enjoy the fascinating antics of demonkind, and their attempts at intimidation, conversation, and even... living a normal life!
Multiple Endings and Mysteries!
Whether you decide to take the path of pious purity, hellish honesty or apathetic attitude, will lead you to reach one, of three possible endings.
COMBAT -
Combat is an integral part of the game, whether you choose to play in Story or Challenge mode. During combat, you'll have to dodge your opponent's attacks, fail to do so and you'll add one last corpse to this demonic massacre. In your turn, carefully choose what attack in your arsenal will best help defeat your opponent, or use an item to gain the upper hand. Never underestimate an opponent, one failed dodge can spell your demise.聽
Turn-based Combat
Returning to the good old traditions of classical RPG games, Lof-Ely: The Dark Cave has a classic turn-by-turn combat system, where you'll choose what to do in your turn, and respond to the enemies' actions in their respective turn. Unlike classic RPGs, you'll fight mostly with one character, so you must strategize and use every item and tool in your arsenal to keep him alive and deal with your enemies as quickly as possible.
Dodge enemy attacks!
An enemy attack will usually be accompanied by a "dodge key" on-screen, pressing the correspondent key will allow your character to dodge out of the way and spare himself any damage in the enemy's turn. Learn to master the dodge mechanic, for without it the demons shall surely defeat you in combat.
Use a variety of abilities to attack your foes or enhance your state.
As you progress, you'll gain different abilities that will allow you to create better strategies, and defeat your foes quickly. There are elemental attacks that deal more damage according to the enemy and have diverse costs from dealing less damage to tiring yourself out. There is also a gun, fire it and aim it properly to deal the most damage you can.
Choose a Difficulty for YOU to best experience the game.
If you are here for the narrative, characters, and/or puzzles, you can choose to play in STORY mode. In this mode, the game offers more save spots, more loot, and enemy attacks are easier to dodge. Although, if you are here for combat and a classic RPG grind, then CHALLENGE mode might be more to your liking. In challenge mode, enemy attacks are as quicker, save spots are scarce, and defeat is but a few hits away.
PUZZLE-SOLVING -
Decipher all kinds of puzzles, from classic skull pushing to interpreting bible verses, we've got all kinds of brain-breaking challenges. No, but really, get ready to push a skull, because you'll be doing that a lot. You WILL GET TIRED of that SKULL. Don't worry, you can get an ending, if you just solve the basic puzzles! However, if you want the cool endings, you might have to put your brain to the test( or look for a guide >:| ).
Push a cranium to unlock blocked paths!
Maneuver your character to push a cranium across the 2D plane, once the cranium reaches the ritual circle, you've completed the puzzle! But be alert, for if the cranium gets stuck, you might have to start from the beginning by using a heretical stone to return the craniums to their starting position.
Match a biblical phrase with its book, chapter, and verse (Might require either having a bible at hand or, you know, looking it up online).
Read a biblical verse, and correctly identify its book of origin, the chapter, and the number it holds. Once you've succeeded, you'll be rewarded with passage to a new place.
Solve complicated puzzles that require you to pay close attention to the environment.
These, are the "brain-breaking challenges". From matching colors and animals to the 4 Evangelists to interpreting phrases and the places they're written on to follow the correct path. When I say brain-breaking, I mean it.
FIND SECRETS!
Everywhere there's a puzzle, there's a secret waiting to be found. Though not necessary for beating the game, these secrets hide powerful items, new abilities, and even secret boss fights. Additionally, there may also be lore to be found, alongside these already valuable rewards.
