PROMYSEL is an indie survival sandbox set in the Siberian taiga. Players inherit a ruined izba and must learn to live from the land through fishing, hunting, foraging, and building, with no quest markers or artificial objectives guiding the way.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on realistic resource gathering and shelter construction. Fishing requires locating the right spot on the river, choosing the proper hour, and selecting suitable bait rather than relying on quick button presses. Hunting small game like hares involves an old rifle where player fatigue affects aim stability and noise alerts prey. Foraging covers real southern taiga species such as bilberry, lingonberry, and reindeer lichen, with identification learned through observation instead of labeled icons.
Fire building starts from collected stones, branches, and bark. Cooking occurs on handmade skewers. Logging follows traditional methods: felling pines, bucking them to length, splitting, and raising walls course by course on a boulder foundation. Weather systems influence the environment, with late autumn bringing gray skies, cold rain, early snow on birches, and fog over water. Progression comes solely from player knowledge of animal habits, safe slopes, and seasonal patterns rather than character levels or skill trees.
Game Modes
Single-player offers a solitary experience focused on personal discovery and daily routines in the forest. Online co-op supports up to five friends, allowing shared activities like joint fishing trips, communal fires, and collaborative izba construction. The game also includes shared or split-screen co-op options for local play alongside remote play together support.
These modes emphasize cooperation without altering the underlying simulation rules. Sessions remain open-ended, with no time limits or competitive elements.
Development and Current Features
A solo developer continues to expand the title through regular updates. Implemented systems already cover fishing, hare hunting, fire starting, foraging, tree felling and splitting, izba foundation work, dynamic weather, and online co-op. Planned additions include trapping mechanics, larger game animals, trading systems, and completion of the full izba structure with roof and stove elements.
The game runs on PC with minimum specifications including Windows 10, an Intel Core i5-6600 or equivalent processor, 8 GB RAM, and a GTX 1060 or RX 580 graphics card. An internet connection is required specifically for co-op sessions.
Is It Worth Playing?
PROMYSEL suits players who prefer deliberate, observation-driven survival without external pressure or supernatural threats. The absence of grind or rushed objectives allows focus on earned successes such as a memorable first catch or a steadily improving shelter. Those drawn to realistic ecology, traditional crafting, and quiet daily rhythms in a natural setting will find the approach rewarding. The title remains in active development, so features continue to grow beyond the current foundation and co-op support.
