Reapercussions is a strategy indie game on PC that blends dice rolling with poker hand building in a gothic fantasy setting. Players take on the role of a Reaper tasked with collecting souls through calculated rolls and strategic upgrades across repeated runs.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on rolling six dice themed after the Four Horsemen. Bone represents Famine, Onyx stands for Death, Blood for War, and Plague for Pestilence. Each roll allows players to keep promising dice while rerolling others before submitting a hand. Successful hands generate BONES, which combine with a DREAD multiplier to determine the final score against each soul's threshold.
Dice can tip, become buried, or suffer destruction during runs, adding risk to every decision. Individual dice types also carry pairs of Omens that activate to alter the current run, sometimes providing powerful advantages and other times introducing complications. Remnants earned from reaping souls can be spent in Purgatory on enhancements that carry forward, while Soul Shards unlock new souls and their associated rewards.
Additional systems deepen the experience. Relics slot into an alchemy grid to unlock or improve Hex Potions, which imbue dice with favorable effects. Grimoires level up preferred hands for repeated use. The full roster includes 83 relics, 31 potions, and 18 grimoires, all of which combine differently on each attempt.
Game Modes
Reapercussions operates through a single continuous run structure with no separate competitive or cooperative modes. Every session begins with a fresh set of dice and proceeds through successive soul encounters until resources or rolls are exhausted. The emphasis stays on roguelike progression, where choices in upgrades and omen triggers shape the path forward.
Break Time events appear periodically as short interludes that offer breathing room along with random luck elements, good or bad. These moments provide variety without shifting the fundamental single-player focus on personal high scores and soul collection.
Content and Progression
More than 111 distinct souls populate the realm, ranging from knights and kings to musicians, magicians, and villagers. Each soul carries an affliction that modifies the reaping conditions, and many grant a unique relic upon collection. A hidden tier of souls exists for players who push deeper, introducing greater challenges and hotter competition against escalating thresholds.
Unlocking proceeds through Soul Shards accumulated across runs. New souls expand the pool of targets and rewards, encouraging repeated attempts to build stronger combinations of relics, potions, and leveled hands. The progression rewards experimentation with different dice types and omen activations rather than linear advancement.
Characters and Setting
Bunk serves as the introductory guide, a spunky demon who assists new Reapers settling into Purgatory. His efforts to maintain order often fall short, providing light narrative flavor during onboarding and progress checks. The overall tone mixes dark fantasy with casual strategy, centered on the daily work of soul reaping in a realm abundant with targets.
Is It Worth Playing?
Reapercussions suits players who enjoy dice-driven strategy games with poker mechanics and roguelike elements. The combination of hand building, risk management through dice states, and layered upgrades creates engaging sessions focused on optimization and adaptation. Those drawn to casual yet thoughtful indie titles with gothic themes will find the systems rewarding through repeated runs and discovery of new soul interactions. The game remains in active development with ongoing refinements to its core loop.
