To preside in Monteririo is no enviable fate鈥攅specially for a northerner like yourself. This royal appointment is, in truth, a decree of exile, casting you to a southern frontier a thousand leagues from home. With no recourse but to endure, you find yourself bound to the relentless grind of your station.
Your saving grace is your superior, a fellow magistrate of a lenient disposition. His only demand: process the daily influx of cases with haste鈥攖he more, the better. Whether this is a mercy or a curse remains to be seen.
Hope, however, arrives on the heels of a letter from Bianca. There is a path back to the North, back to the tranquil peace of your homeland鈥攑rovided you can endure until the appointed hour.
