Skydrifter is an action RPG with simulation, adventure and casual elements set on a shattered world of drifting block planets. Players take on the role of a Skydrifter who uses a jetpack and grapple to leap between procedurally generated worlds in search of four Star Shards. These shards are the key to forging a Sky Anchor that can bind the fragmented planets back together. The game supports both solo play and online co-op for up to four players on PC.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on exploration and progression across unique planetary environments. Planets generate as players travel outward, revealing varied biomes such as lava worlds, frozen glaciers, crystal fields, deserts and toxic marshes. Each biome features distinct weather, creatures and terrain. Movement relies on jetpack leaps combined with grappling to cross gaps and reach new areas efficiently.
Combat involves fighting skeletons, archers, brutes, elites and elemental creatures while tackling boss planets. Each boss planet houses an element Colossus with telegraphed attacks, a second phase and a signature move. Boss difficulty scales with the number of players present. Ancient ruins contain lore tablets and one-time relic caches that reward exploration.
Resource gathering and base building form another major pillar. Every block on every planet can be mined for coal, iron and rarer ores. Players place bases, workbenches, furnaces, chests, tents and planters. A base flag marks locations for friends to locate easily. Animal taming adds depth: pigs, cows, chickens, sheep and yaks can be fed, caged and transported home. These animals provide resources like milk, eggs, truffles and wool, and they support breeding for new generations.
Crafting spans multiple tool tiers and armor sets, supported by an enchanting system that customizes gear. Leveling grants skill points that improve jump range, damage, health, speed and other attributes. Controls work with mouse and keyboard or a controller, and the view can switch between third and first person.
Game Modes
Skydrifter offers solo play for those who prefer independent exploration and story progression. In this mode, a single player handles all aspects of travel, combat, crafting and base building across the drifting worlds.
Cooperative multiplayer allows up to four players to join a shared world. Each participant brings their own character, gear and skills. Friends can join sessions directly, explore together and tackle scaled bosses as a team. Worlds remain accessible across sessions, with base flags helping groups coordinate locations.
Progression and Systems
Story advancement ties directly to collecting the four Star Shards from guarded boss planets. Deeper travel unlocks stranger and richer planets with increased rewards. Dungeons and ruins provide additional challenges and collectibles beyond the main quest.
The crafting and enchanting systems encourage repeated playthroughs or extended sessions. Skill point allocation lets players tailor their Skydrifter to preferred playstyles, whether focused on mobility, combat or resource management. Procedural generation ensures each journey presents new combinations of terrain, weather and encounters.
Is It Worth Playing?
Skydrifter sits in Early Access and already includes a full story, multiple boss planets, dungeons, deep crafting and co-op support. The game continues to evolve with community input through forums and Discord, so players who enjoy participating in development may find the current state particularly engaging. Those drawn to jetpack-based exploration, block-based building, animal husbandry and cooperative boss fights on procedurally varied worlds will find a solid foundation here. Solo players receive the same core content without requiring others, while groups benefit from shared worlds and scaled challenges. Availability remains limited to PC at this stage.
