Titanfall 2 is a first-person shooter that blends fast-paced pilot movement with large-scale Titan combat on the PS4. The game features a complete single-player campaign alongside competitive multiplayer matches that support up to 16 players online.
Gameplay
Pilots move through environments using wall-running, sliding, double-jumping, and a grappling hook to maintain momentum during fights. These abilities chain together for fluid traversal across maps filled with vertical space and open sightlines. Combat mixes precise gunplay with tactical options like the pulse blade for enemy detection and holographic decoys to mislead opponents. Players switch between lightweight pilot sections and heavier Titan sections, where each Titan class offers distinct weapons and abilities such as long-range rockets or close-quarters flamethrowers. The campaign follows Jack Cooper and his Titan companion BT-7274 through a linear sequence of missions that alternate between pilot platforming and Titan battles. Loadouts for both pilots and Titans can be customized with different weapons, abilities, and upgrades earned through play.
Game Modes
Multiplayer includes several distinct modes that emphasize different objectives and team sizes. Attrition awards points for eliminating both enemy pilots and AI units, with the first team to reach the score limit winning. Bounty Hunt requires players to collect cash from kills and deposit it at banking points while protecting their earnings from opponents. Amped Hardpoint focuses on capturing and holding control nodes, with extra points awarded for maintaining control over time. Pilot vs. Pilot restricts matches to infantry combat without Titans or AI support. Capture the Flag tasks teams with stealing the enemy flag and returning it to base while defending their own. Last Titan Standing places all players in Titans from the start of each round, with only one life per round. Skirmish functions as a straightforward team deathmatch with Titans earned over time. Live Fire delivers fast 6v6 pilot-only matches on compact maps designed for close-quarters action. Free-for-All pits 12 players against each other in an every-person-for-themselves format.
Progression and Features
Players unlock new weapons, tactical abilities, and Titan variants through a progression system that rewards consistent performance across matches. Faction choice influences available cosmetics and callsigns but does not alter core mechanics. The PS4 version supports DualShock 4 vibration feedback during intense combat sequences and works with remote play features. Online multiplayer requires a PlayStation Plus subscription, while the campaign remains accessible offline. Matches typically run with teams of six or eight depending on the selected mode, and the game maintains active servers for matchmaking years after release.
Is It Worth Playing?
Titanfall 2 suits players who enjoy skill-based movement shooters combined with occasional mech combat. The campaign provides a focused story experience with varied mission design that teaches core mechanics before multiplayer. Multiplayer rewards precise aiming and creative use of mobility tools, creating matches that feel distinct from standard team deathmatch formats. The game remains fully playable on PS4 with consistent online activity and no required additional purchases for core content. Those seeking a complete package of single-player and multiplayer content in one title will find the structure rewarding, particularly if they prefer fast movement over cover-based shooting. The overall reception highlights strong execution of its core loop without ongoing seasonal content or major updates in recent years.
