Han Qi
An 18-year-old examinee from a prominent bureaucratic family. Mature and composed beyond his years, diligent and upright, he is well-versed in medical texts. After the murders, he is confined along with other students in the Imperial Academy.
Gao Ming
Inspector of the Left Army in Kaifeng Prefecture, 50 years old. Though his official rank is modest, he wields real power over city security. After the murders, he is tasked by the court to protect the Imperial Academy.
Liang Yu
