Chronicles Unwritten is a single-player strategy card game that blends elements of history, mythology, post-apocalyptic ruins, and cosmic themes into one battlefield. Players construct decks and select battle packages to combine cards effectively and accumulate Legend through matches against artificial intelligence opponents.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on managing a hand of seven cards while deploying up to one Unit, one Relic, and one Event per turn. Success depends on aligning card abilities with an overall strategy, balancing the attributes of Might, Guard, and Momentum. Roles shift between Aggressor and Defender during each encounter, requiring constant adaptation to maintain an advantage.
Deck construction forms another key layer. Players assemble a 50-card Main deck along with a Reserve deck drawn from a pool of 200 playing cards and 20 Chronicles. These Chronicles span four distinct eras labeled Mythic, Legacy, Ruin, and Cosmic. Custom decks can be saved for repeated use, or a randomly assembled legal deck can serve as a starting point for quick matches.
Game Modes
All available play takes place in single-player matches against AI opponents. Difficulty levels range from Easy and Normal to Hard and Titan, allowing players to scale the challenge according to experience. No multiplayer component is active in the current release.
Additional tools support ongoing play and improvement. The card gallery offers grid or detailed viewing options for reviewing the full collection. An in-game manual provides rules explanations and control references. After each match, players can inspect individual cards and review the full match history regardless of the outcome.
Chronicles and Objectives
Progression involves pursuing private objectives tied to a chosen Chronicle. Completing these goals grants extra Legend points. Players decide which objectives fit their current deck best and can retire a Chronicle at any time to pursue different opportunities with a new selection.
The eras themselves supply thematic variety through their card pools. Mythic draws from legendary tales, Legacy emphasizes historical continuity, Ruin reflects wasteland survival, and Cosmic introduces otherworldly elements. Mixing cards across eras encourages experimentation with unexpected combinations.
Is It Worth Playing?
The base game remains free to play and includes all 220 base cards at launch. This removes any upfront cost barrier for those interested in the deck-building and tactical combat systems. The current version 0.1 BETA focuses exclusively on single-player AI battles, with multiplayer listed as still in development.
Players who enjoy deliberate card strategy, deck tuning, and adjustable difficulty against computer opponents will find a complete experience here. The ability to review matches and browse cards supports learning and refinement without external resources. Those seeking immediate multiplayer competition should note that feature is not yet available. The free access and self-contained single-player content make it a low-risk option for testing the mechanics.
