Gnome Horde: Garden Defense is a strategy game for PC in which players defend a single cottage from waves of ceramic garden gnomes. The core loop centers on placing and aiming defensive towers while managing resources collected from defeated enemies to strengthen future defenses.
Gameplay
Players plant toy towers directly into flower beds and set their firing patterns to either a focused point or a wider spread. Ten different towers handle various threats, supported by four active abilities that include the Water Bomb, Lawnmower, Giant Pumpkin, and Frost Hose. These tools allow direct intervention during intense moments when static defenses alone prove insufficient.
Eight varieties of gnomes make up the attacking hordes. Most shatter on impact, but a special giant appears in the Volcano Garden and marches straight through the defensive lines. Every destroyed gnome leaves behind shards that feed into the garden shed, where more than one hundred upgrades become available to improve tower performance over time.
Controller support is built in, and the game runs on standard PC hardware with modest system requirements.
Game Modes
The main campaign consists of ten distinct gardens spread across twenty levels. Larger encounters can involve more than one hundred thousand gnomes in total. Progression through these levels introduces new garden layouts and increasing pressure from the advancing hordes.
Endless mode removes the level limit and lets waves continue indefinitely, with every tenth wave featuring a boss encounter. This mode supports both solo play and online co-op for two players. In co-op, participants can work together across the entire map or divide responsibilities by claiming separate halves of the battlefield.
Tower and Upgrade Systems
Towers are positioned in flower beds and remain the primary line of defense. Their placement and targeting choices determine how effectively they cover paths and choke points. The garden shed converts collected shards into permanent improvements, creating a steady loop of defense, collection, and enhancement that rewards careful resource allocation across multiple runs.
Upgrades affect tower strength, range, and special effects, allowing players to tailor defenses to the specific gnome types appearing in each garden.
Is It Worth Playing?
Gnome Horde: Garden Defense suits players who enjoy tower defense combined with resource management and light co-op elements. The campaign offers a structured progression through varied gardens, while endless mode provides ongoing challenge for those seeking higher scores or longer survival runs. Online co-op adds a cooperative layer without requiring large groups.
Because the game remains in a pre-release state, no player reviews or post-launch updates are available yet. Those interested in the described mechanics can follow its development for future availability on PC.
